Odd that your factory jet is so small. My factory jet (1986) is a 147.5. I am re-jetting to a 152.5 and have ordered a 155 just to be on the safe side. the jet's are only 4$ a piece. I've also ordered a new pilot jet a 55 i do believe (Forget) the factory pilot on mine is supposedly a 35. The K&N filter I hope to purchase should offset the richness with the stock filter as it would starve for air with the stock filter and too large a jet eg. too rich. The only drawback to re-jetting and changing air filters is a really sloppy bottom end. But I will deal with that as long as i get some more pulling power with myself (6' tall 290lbs , my wife 5'2" tall @ 115lbs and a knapsack at approx 50lbs) on the bike. That btw is 13lbs shy of the maximum weight limit of the savage. MY clutch will suffer but I've got a new one on order to put in this winter. Getting back to jets, I wonder if the timing is changed as well as a smaller jet size and restrictive stock muffler, to accomodate pollution, perhaps in the cdi module? I'm not aware of a mechanical timing advance on the savage... unless one were to slot the cam gear holes and slide them slightly..... hmmmmmm ...... well, I'll see what the new jets and filter do first I guess. Happy riding all.
